ELF/FB20 Fusion Thermal Enhanced Night Vision Binocular Goggles

ELF/FB20 Fusion Thermal Enhanced Night Vision Binocular Goggles

The ELF-FB20 combines conventional image-intensified night vision with advanced thermal imaging technology, delivering enhanced detection capabilities and improved situational awareness in a single, integrated binocular system.

Unlike traditional night vision, which relies on available ambient light to produce an image, the ELF-FB20 incorporates a high-resolution 640 × 512 thermal sensor, allowing heat signatures to be displayed directly over the night vision image. This combination provides the environmental detail and natural viewing experience of analogue night vision alongside the detection advantages of thermal imaging.

Featuring true eye-side thermal fusion technology, the ELF-FB20 introduces thermal imagery after the image intensifier rather than projecting it through the tube. This approach prevents thermal overlay illumination from contributing to image intensifier burn-in while maintaining consistent thermal visibility across changing lighting conditions.

With a 60Hz thermal refresh rate, improved optical performance and multiple selectable fusion modes, the ELF-FB20 delivers a responsive and versatile viewing experience suited to demanding low-light environments.

INTELLIGENT THERMAL FUSION

The ELF-FB20 combines two complementary imaging technologies to provide a more comprehensive view of the surrounding environment.

While traditional night vision excels at displaying terrain, movement and environmental detail, thermal imaging detects temperature differences that may otherwise remain difficult to distinguish.

By integrating both technologies into a single viewing system, the ELF-FB20 allows users to maintain visual awareness of their surroundings while simultaneously highlighting heat signatures from people, wildlife and other heat-emitting objects.

Selectable fusion modes allow the thermal overlay to be adjusted to suit different environments and observation requirements, including:

  • Highlight Mode: Emphasises detected heat signatures within the night vision image.
  • Outline Mode: Displays thermal outlines while preserving the underlying night vision image.

REFINED OPTICS & LOW-LATENCY IMAGING

The second-generation ELF-FB20 introduces an improved optical system designed to reduce chromatic aberration, minimise colour fringing and provide greater viewing comfort.

Its upgraded thermal processing system delivers a responsive 60Hz thermal image with reduced latency, improving the presentation and alignment of thermal information during movement.

Enhanced thermal processing algorithms and adjustable thermal sensitivity allow users to optimise the thermal overlay for varying environmental conditions, while improved optical components provide a clearer and more consistent viewing experience.

The system also incorporates adjustable thermal focus, refined image controls and compatibility with standard PVS-14 objective lens accessories.

PURPOSE-BUILT INTEGRATION

Unlike conventional thermal clip-on systems, the ELF-FB20 integrates image intensification and thermal imaging directly into a single binocular housing, eliminating the need for additional external thermal attachments.

Weighing approximately 530g, the system features independently articulating optical pods, adjustable interpupillary distance and an external battery system designed to support extended operation.

The articulating design allows each optical pod to be independently positioned, providing greater flexibility during use and allowing the system to maintain a compact profile when stowed.

Its integrated construction reduces additional mounting hardware while maintaining the familiar operation and handling characteristics of modern binocular night vision systems.

ENHANCED SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

By combining the strengths of analogue night vision and thermal imaging, the ELF-FB20 provides additional visual information beyond what either technology can deliver independently.

Thermal detection can reveal heat signatures obscured by low visual contrast, camouflage or complex backgrounds, while image intensification retains the environmental detail necessary for navigation and observation.

The result is a versatile dual-spectrum imaging system designed to improve detection, observation and overall awareness across a wide range of low-light environments.
